Raise the Roof, the Shoreline Habitat for Humanity connection, once again held their annual day of building on Saturday, June 8, 2019. This year’s event held a twist as Raise the Roof partnered with Roots 4 Relief, another non-profit organization for the build. The event called “The Build at Bishop’s” took place at Bishop’s Orchards in their field at the Little Red Barn located on Route 1 in Guilford, 1355 Boston Post Road, from 9am to 3pm.

In years past, it had been an annual tradition of inviting community members to a local town green for a Saturday of building walls for a Habitat for Humanity house. This year’s build began to take shape when local children’s nonprofit, Roots 4 Relief, reached out to see how they could pitch in to be part of Raise the Roof’s annual day of building. The idea was to align the mission of Roots 4 Relief, ‘Empowering Children to Make a Difference’, and get more families and youth to participate in this annual event. Raise the Roof & Roots 4 Relief invited and welcomed the community on Saturday, June 8 for The Build at Bishop’s! Volunteers built the exterior walls for use in a future Raise the Roof sponsored Habitat house in New Haven, and Roots 4 Relief hosted activities that provided opportunities for children and families to experience the Habitat mission with “kid friendly” crafts & activities that will be used in Habitat homes. Examples included birdhouses, quilt patches, builders’ aprons, and window boxes. These items will be gifts for Habitat Partner families.

Community members and attendees stopped by Raise the Roof’s Message Walls on June 8 to write wishes, blessings and add artwork. The walls will be built into the next Raise the Roof sponsored Habitat house with the messages tucked into the heart of the home.
